Cotonou, 10 July 2026 — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, H.E. Ambassador Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, officially commenced her diplomatic mandate following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Romuald Wadagni at the Palais de la Marina.
The presentation of Letters of Credence is one of the highest diplomatic ceremonies between two sovereign states, formally accrediting an ambassador as the official representative of their country.
Following the official ceremony, the Ambassador was warmly welcomed by Embassy staff, colleagues, and friends at the Chancery. Later in the day, a reception was held in her honour, bringing together members of the diplomatic community, representatives of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), friends of the Mission, and locally engaged staff in celebration of this important milestone.
As she begins her assignment, Ambassador Adeola-Ibrahim reaffirmed her commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives, strengthening bilateral cooperation, and fostering closer ties between the peoples of Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
The occasion marked the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with the Republic of Benin, built on mutual respect, shared interests, and a longstanding spirit of good neighbourliness.
